Enemy Within: Why Diversity becomes an Obstacle to Diversity itself?
Reflections on Hypocritical Ethnic/Neurodiversity in Tech and its Implications
The famous saying from the philosopher Heraclitus is translated in a variety of ways, all leading to a singular meaning. The word ethos can be translated to ethics (morality, values, principles etc.). The translation of ethos to character is not wrong either, as long as one understands the abstract meaning of the word ‘character’ which could mean essence/psychic-makeup. Anthropos means a human and when used as a plural (i.e., Anthropoi) it means humanity. Daimon literally translates to daemon (Guardian Angel), and it refers to the spirit. So, the phrase means: ‘ethics is the spirit of human/humanity’ or ‘Spirit is the essence of humanity’.
At an individual level, the spirit is the inner voice, — a subset/fraction of the GOD (i.e., Holy Spirit) within you. At a societal level, spirit is the spirit of the culture which is the collective consciousness of all the people in the society. Just like spirit guides an individual human towards a direction, collective consciousness moves societies towards a path. Losing the spirit at an individual level results in moral corruption of the individual and loss of spirit at a societal level causes a collapse of society. So, when a person protects their spirit, they protect the humanity and indeed work in service of GOD. Similarly, when a person corrupts their spirit, by immoral practices (e.g., intoxicants or harmful conduct), they indirectly contaminate the collective consciousness and therefore, are in direct confrontation with GOD.
The spirit of a culture can be observed from the way the disadvantaged and marginalized individuals are treated in a society. A culture with healthy spirit is where all people of society are treated with equality and given the opportunity/support to actualize their potential. A culture where success is not a genetic lottery. A culture where differences are not taken as a burden but an asset. A culture where material wealth is not the deciding factor for one’s worth. A culture where wealth and nepotism is not the requirement for securing an employment. A culture where appearances don’t define leadership. A culture which is not characterized by hypocrisy and which knows the true meaning of the words it uses so frequently.
It is often touted in the media that there is lack of diversity in employment and other walks of life. However, it is hard to say if these people even understand the meaning of the word. There are situations when diversity might be the right word to describe discrimination and oppression against certain individuals in society. For example, when someone from an ethnic/neuro minority is discriminated against by people from a dominant group solely based on their differences. However, often it is not the typical “normal” people who create lack of diversity but the powerful ethnic/neurodiverse people, who are part of the oppressive system, become the oppressors for other ethnic/neurodiverse minorities.
The biggest example of such discrimination is found in tech sector. Many people in the tech sector have neurodiverse backgrounds (e.g., autism). These people were included in society on grounds of diversity practices, however, when they reached the corporate/managerial/HR positions, they became the oppressors of other ethnic/neurodiverse minorities. Perhaps it has something to do with Nerdism. Nerd grandiosity & xenophobia is nothing new and can be observed easily on social media. However, when Nerdism goes to extreme and starts to become an obstacle for other’s wellbeing/survival then it is the clinical malignant narcissism.
“It is an age-old ‘Divide-and-Rule’ tactic that colonialists applied when they occupied Indian subcontinent.”
The same goes for ethnic diversity as well. Some of the people from the ethnic minorities are bribed with positions of power in order to suppress the voices of equality. In-fact most of the brutality and discrimination which is done on ethnic minorities come from the powerful members of the ethnic minorities themselves. It is an age-old ‘Divide-and-Rule’ tactic that colonialists applied when they occupied Indian subcontinent. Brits ruled India while being a minority in India themselves using the local militias and exploiting the tribal nature of the population. The same is happening in the tech sector. Some of the ethnic minorities have been given positions of power and these ignorant slaves have now become the oppressors.
“Being deep in hedonism and excess, they have lost their touch with humanity. The jobs they got due to “diversity”, the cars they drive are fueled by the blood of the oppressed, the homes they “own” are built on the ashes of the poor and the pride they have is the pride of the power-to-abuse.”
A similar pattern can be found in the Identity politics (a.k.a, the rainbow brigade). Some of the people from these identity groups have been rewarded with influence, money and power, which has blinded them of the truth and made them the oppressors. The truth is that they have sold themselves and their souls by becoming a vehicle of materialism. It wouldn’t be far fetched to say that these sex obsessed identitarians have become the facilitators of the oppressor class.
So, one might wonder here about common factor among all these cases. Well, the common factor is materialism. That shiny stuff, luxury travels and prestigious positions which all these hypocritic diversity champions love and caress. Almost all the people who use diversity and inclusion rhetoric these days are morally corrupt. Being deep in hedonism and excess, they have lost their touch with humanity. The jobs they got due to “diversity”, the cars they drive are fueled by the blood of the oppressed, the homes they own are built on the ashes of the poor and the pride they have is the pride of the power-to-abuse.
A generation of social media celebrities has ruined the moral landscape of society. Nepotism is being sold in the name of diversity. All diversity practices are fake, and all voices of equality are hypocritical. No one is left untainted. All of this, paints a bleak picture of state of affairs in society, but this is truth. The question then is ‘do you want the truth?!’
Conclusions
The essence of human spirit lies in the moral conduct of the individuals in the society. When all the individuals in the society have a clear conscious and rightful moral conduct, society moves towards a prosperous direction. However, when most individuals have tainted moral conscious, societies collapse. Diversity practices and other equality efforts are not successful because we have contaminated the collective consciousness by tainting our daemon (i.e., the spirit). Social media has been a catalyst and platform for such contamination. The promises of materialism might be shiny, but we need to remember, ‘Not all that glitters is Gold’.
